International Superstar to return to Llangollen

Katherine Jenkins has performed for The Queen, The Pope and the Prime Minister and has since stunned audiences around the world, from the Sydney Opera House to Wembley, from the Royal Albert Hall to Joe's Pub in New York City cementing her status in the classical crossover field...and now she's on her way to Llangollen!

Stars don't come much bigger, or much brighter, than Katherine Jenkins who will be gracing the Llangollen stage on Monday July 5th. Katherine has sold in excess of four million albums and is the only artist who has held #1,2,3 and 4 in the classical album charts simultaneously! Not bad for a young woman from the small village of Neath inthe Welsh Valleys! But of course Katherine Jenkins is no ordinary girl. Having trained at the Royal College of Music she signed the biggest ever classical deal and has become the premier ambassador of bringing classical music to a mainstream audience. Throughout her career Katherine Jenkins has broken records, selling millions of albums worldwide, picking up numerous awards and has performed at every single high profile tournament on the British sporting calendar.
Outside of Katherine's recording duties, she has broadened out into the TV world. The last year has seen Katherine present a special BBC series, ‘The Week We Went To War', as well as be a judge and mentor on the hit ITV1 show, ‘Popstars to Operastars'. 2010 is looking to be another huge year for Katherine, as she will be releasing her first record in North America.
Believe, Katherine's most ambitious album to date was recorded in the sun-kissed Hollywood Hills, under the expert guidance of world-class star-maker and producer David Foster. In the last two months of 2009, Katherine sold a staggering 400,000 Believe albums in the UK alone. Pushing the boundaries on traditional crossover repertoire, Katherine Jenkins has created a record for the world stage, so where better to hear her sing than on this international stage.
‘It's such a thrill to be back at Llangollen!' says Katherine. ‘The Llangollen International Eisteddfod is such a unique event because it brings so many people together from all over the world to create a wonderful week of international friendship and harmony - and it all takes place here in Wales! It makes me so proud. I really can't wait to step out on that stage once again and to be a part of this fantastic festival!'
How does Katherine Jenkins think Llangollen will compare to some of the other famous venues she's performed in over the years? "There's always something special about singing in Wales', she says, ‘and especially in an International Welsh Eisteddfod! I was lucky enough to have been invited to sing at the National Eisteddfod in 2006 and, of course, in Llangollen International Festival in the same year. Now I am truly honoured to be invited back to perform at the Opening Gala Concert for this year's Llangollen festival'.
Llangollen's Executive Director Mervyn Cousins believes that the Opening Gala Concert is one of the Festivals' most important events. "It creates a kind of keynote for the entire week", he says, "so it's vital that we get it right. Of course, knowing that a superstar of Katherine Jenkins' status has agreed to sing for us means that we will be treated to something very special indeed. The Llangollen pavilion is going to be buzzing with excitement, as it holds its very first concert since the refurbishment!"
Katherine is not only cherished as one of Britain's favourite singers, but is also a truly international performer and has become a regular artist on Network Saturday night television, and you can see her live at this unique event.

Mae Katherine Jenkins wedi perfformio i'r Frenhines, y Pab a'r Prif Weinidog ac wedi syfrdanu cynulleidfaoedd o gwmpas y byd, o Dy Opera Sydney i Wembly, o Neuadd Frenhinol Albert i Dafarn Joe yn Efrog newydd, sy'n tanlinellu ei statws yn y maes trawsgroesi clasurol; a nawr mae hi ar ei ffordd i Langollen!

Nid oes seren fwy disglair na Katherine Jenkins a fydd yn serennu ar lwyfan Llangollen ar nos Lun Gorffennaf 5ed. Mae hi wedi gwerthu dros bedair miliwn albwm a'r cynta' hefyd i fod yn rif 1, 2, 3 a 4 yn y siartiau clasurol ar yr un pryd! Ddim yn ddrwg i ferch o Gastell Nedd. Ond wrth gwrs nid merch arferol mohoni. Wedi astudio yng Ngholeg Cerdd Frenhinol mi arwyddodd hi'r cytundeb clasurol mwya' erioed ac mae hi wedi dod yn brif lysgennad i ddod a cherddoriaeth glasurol i gynulleidfa eang. Mae hyn yn fy ngwneud yn falch iawn. Mi rydw i yn edrych ymlaen yn arw at gerdded allan unwaith yn rhagor ar y llwyfan a bod yn rhan o ŵyl mor arbennig"
Sut mae Katherine Jenkins yn meddwl fod Llangollen yn cymharu â digwyddiadau eraill y mae hi wedi canu ynddynt dros y blynyddoedd? "Mae ‘na rhywbeth arbennig iawn am ganu yng Nghymru" meddai "yn enwedig mewn Gŵyl Ryngwladol Gymreig. Mi fues i'n lwcus i gael fy ngwahodd i ganu yn yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol yn 2006, ac wrth gwrs yn Eisteddfod Ryngwladol Llangollen yn yr un flwyddyn. Nawr mi rydw i'n ymfalchïo yn y faith fy mod wedi cael fy ngwahodd i ddychwelyd i Langollen eto eleni i serennu yn y Gala Agoriadol."
Mae Mervyn Cousins, Cyfarwyddwr Gweithredol Llangollen yn credu mai'r Gala Agoriadol yw un o ddigwyddiadau mwya' pwysig yr ŵyl. "Mae'n creu rhyw fath o gyweirnod i'r wythnos gyfan" meddai. "Mae hi'n hanfodol ein bod yn cael hwn yn iawn. Wrth gwrs, mae gwybod fod seren o'r fath statws â Katherine Jenkins wedi cytuno i ganu yn golygu y cawn rywbeth arbennig iawn sy'n wledd i'r llygad ac i'r glust. Mi fydd y Pafiliwn yn fwrlwm o egni wrth i ni gychwyn ein cyngerdd gyntaf lle y bydd Katherine yn codi'r to newydd sbon!"
