Eisteddfod veteran returns to Llangollen
An old friend of Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod returns to the annual music event, 65 years after his first taste of Eisteddfod life. Emrys Williams, originally from Fron who now lives in Elsmere Port, was a competitor at the very first Eisteddfod in 1947.
Emrys, who was a runner-up in the Tenor Solo competition in 1947, was a keen musician. He returned to the stage in the 1950s where he won the solo competition on his second attempt.
The 94 year-old was visiting this year’s Llangollen musical showcase for the first time in three years and was looking forward to enjoying the variety of competitions taking place on the stage.
He continues his love for music to the present day as he conducts a local choir.
Emrys Williams played football for Elsmere Port FC whilst also working as an apprentice electrician when he first appeared at Llangollen Eisteddfod.
