HONEST AND LIVELY DISCUSSION AT S4C VIEWERS’ EVENING
S4C viewers were given the opportunity to voice their opinion on programmes and services in a special Viewers’ Evening in Blaenau Gwent – with over 80 locals in attendance.
An honest and lively discussion was had between members of the audience and a panel of S4C officials at the Llanhilleth Miners Institute. Among the topics discussed were S4C’s Learners’ services, the Channel’s future, programmes for young people, better use of the internet and social network sites and an appreciation of nursery series Cyw.
Broadcaster Jason Mohammed chaired the discussion and the panel included Huw Jones (S4C Authority Chairman), Arwel Ellis Owen (S4C Chief Executive), Geraint Rowlands (Director of Commissioning), Siân Eirian (Head of Children’s Services) and Glenda Jones (A member of the S4C Authority).

Members of the Cwmbran and Ebbw Vale Only Boys Aloud choirs provided the evening’s entertainment, under the guidance of Musical Director Tim Rhys-Evans.
S4C’s Director of Communications, Garffild Lloyd Lewis, said: “We’ve had a very warm welcome in Blaenau Gwent during each of the Calon Cenedl events. The aim of our Viewers’ evenings is to listen to what our audience think of S4C and we had a great deal of feedback on our programmes and services, both complaints and praise. It was great to have so many learners, young people and non-Welsh speakers in the audience and it certainly reflects that S4C is important to people of all backgrounds and areas. The appreciation of the channel was clear and encouraging to us.”
The S4C Viewers’ Evening was one of the free events organised as part of the Channel’s Calon Cenedl (Heart of a Nation) campaign in South East Wales.
A competitive and lively pub quiz at Ebbw Vale RFC, unique poetry lessons with Eurig Salisbury (Wales’ Children’s Laureate) in schools around the area and an evening with the cast of soap opera Pobol y Cwm have all had a positive response from the community.
